Due to the global pandemic forcing apart all of our members, our annual election took on a rather different look in the Summer of 2020. Instead of holding our AGM in a large theatre on campus, full of bustling members ready to hear speeches and cast their votes, we were instead faced with no choice but to hold a remote election.
Our Students’ Union had successfully managed to pull off an overhaul of the entire election system, meaning that each of us could cast our votes for President, Treasurer and more from online. This meant we could ensure a fair electoral process, without jeopardising anyone’s health and well being.
We made sure to still hold our annual hustings, where prospective officers present their manifestos, but this year through the medium of Microsoft Teams. Yes, there were audio and connection issues, but it’s safe to say that for the most part, it was plain sailing.
My congratulations go to all those who were elected to serve the clubs in the coming year, and my thanks to those who performed their roles admirably in 2019-2020.
On to another bigger and brighter year of lacrosse.
